Vol. 53                             March 3, 2010                                No. 9

Pastor Joey

Did you know that the southernmost point of Africa has for centuries experienced tremendous storms?  For many years no one even knew what lay beyond that cape, for no ship attempting to round that point had ever returned to tell the tale.  Among the ancients it was known as the "Cape of Storms," and for good reason.  But then in the sixteenth century, a Portuguese explorer, Vasco De Gama, successfully sailed around that very point and found beyond the wild raging storms, a great calm sea, and beyond that, the shores of India.  The name of that cape was changed from the Cape of Storms to the Cape of Good Hope.

Until Jesus Christ rose from the dead, death had been the cape of storms on which all hopes of life beyond had been wrecked.  No one knew what lay beyond that point until, on Easter morning Christ showed us. His disciples trembled in fear, even after seeing evidence of His resurrection.  Christ turned our Cape of Storms into a Cape of Good Hope with His appearance and the peace He brings.  You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You (Isaiah 26:3).

On another note, for several months we have foregone our church conferences on the last Sunday evening of the month due to Christmas and then January’s snow.  Previously, these conferences have mostly been made up of reports and announcements of which those who are active and present were already aware.  So we are going to make an adjustment to help more of our church family to become aware of the business of the church.  Beginning in April we will have our conferences once a quarter on Sunday evenings and most of the business that will require a vote will be dealt with just prior to worship on Sunday mornings.  Our hope is that the more people we keep abreast of what is happening in our church, the more we can move together in harmony.

                                                                                                 Pastor Joey

THANK YOU

Dear Church Family,

I want to say thank you for all that you have done for Lloyd and me; for all the prayers, cards, visits and all the delicious food.  It has been a long 2-1/2 months and friends like you have made it easier.

Thanks for the love, food & visits that you showered us with when my dear niece, Joan King, passed away.  Thanks for the contributions to our church in her memory.

Thanks to our wonderful Pastor Joey – you always have just the right words to say when we need them most.

                                                God Bless All,

                                                Lloyd & Betty

More Notes from Ladell…..

·   Baby Dedication:  Sunday, April 11th, a.m.  Please confirm with Ladell or Ginger.  Please get us a picture by March 28th.  With the picture, please include full name of child, birthday and names of parents.

·   VBS – Saddle Ridge Ranch – Save the dates – June 13th – 18th from 5:30 – 8:45 (beginning with supper).

·   Lent – Last Sunday evening we continued our season of “Lent” celebration (40 days leading up to the resurrection).  Lent is spiritual preparation for Easter symbolized by the three spiritual disciplines of Bible study, prayer and almsgiving.  Even if you don’t come on Sunday evenings, you can still join us on “our Journey to the Cross”.  Here’s how:  1.)  Spend MORE time in Bible Study…read the gospels.  2.)  Pray like you’ve never prayed before and pray more!  3.)  Fast…one meal a day or one meal a week…then use that time to ask God to show you where you need perfecting!  4.)  Almsgiving:  is the biblical term for helping those in need.  SO, intentionally seek out those who have social, material or physical needs and help them.  As we focus on these disciplines, we walk with Christ on His journey to the cross.
